Looking forward to music
2010-09-18 10:10:23
One might almost think my blog would be only for my bachelor thesis there. This is not to be so, so I'm now in between times to a whole other, alien drum computer science, namely music. Although I do not know if it interests you, but if not then I'll notice it so... and everyone can indeed decide this entry to time skip. But a new album that is due my favorite band, but is a good occasion for a bit of advertising, right?
On the first of October, i.e. in two weeks, it is intended to be: The new album "Heilig" by the band Letzte Instanz appears and I'm looking forward to like for Christmas. Anyone who knows me personally, may have already noticed that I sometimes - very rarely - wear band shirts. And if it is not just the "Nord Nord Ost" cover image by Subway To Sally (which I now is already too large), is it almost always one of my many Letzte Instanz shirts. I have even a reasonably broad music taste I tell myself, anyway. But this band is consistently since 2006 on my personal top.

The Letzte Instanz exists quite long, but they also have many lineup changes and a related strong style transformation. Who liked the albums as of 2006, which fell to 2004 and not necessarily the other way around. I find the old stuff nice too and have one or the other silver disc of the time here, but musically I think that for less mature. What makes today the Letzte Instanz for music? I would describe it as a Gothic influenced alternative rock. By the usual rock line up with singer, guitar, bass and drums the whole thing neatly oomph, the additional strings (violin and cello), it gets a slightly symphonic, orchestral score. The lyrics are mostly in German, and have since the singer change away from social criticism and philosophy and poetry through developing, each of which may hold what he wants.
Now there is a new album soon. Here is a list of the currently available samples:
- When jpc (also available Sony Music, the same snippet), there is preview the entire album. At the moment I am mostly on Unsterblich and Eismeer, but it fluctuates.
- On the website of the band there is the video for the single Schau in mein Gesicht.
- There is the track at Amazon Dein Gott for free download as an MP3.
Anyway, I'm not a big fan of the cover image, so I can not even image. Ingo Römling can draw great, but I find the subject to something trite and easy to use too much the cliché. After all, it is something better than the previous.
On 2 November is the band here in Hamburg, in the Grünspan. I go there anyway. Anyone else interested?
Do you know any more bands that make the music of this kind? I still know a handful of rock bands that also work with string instruments, but none that brings together so well. Are there any (apart from Chamber and Apocalyptica) other bands in which the strings to good advantage? I would be very welcome further advice.
