One boatload of features

keywords: website

Three days ago I promised new features. After a gradual and secret launch of the last few UI elements now everything is so much that I would be happy if the interested among you want to watch it. For this I should say that not all features listed below exist only since the last few days, but they are all here for the first time explicitly mentioned. Here are the changes in no fixed order...

Keywords / Categories

Long's plan was, now it is implemented, I can provide my blog entries and other content now with keywords. Above this blog entry, for example, is a slightly grayed out "website" (at least if you visit my website and not the RSS feed for things directly). Clicking on it brings you to a list of all entries that are marked with the word "website".

Analogous to the blog entries refer to the keywords on lectures and other content stored on this website. On the orange entry pages but they are not above the entry, but between description and comments area.

A click on the headline in one of these keyword fields you to my "tag cloud", which displays all the allocated words at a time, with the relative size of most mathematical way of the number of existing entries for the keyword set off against their respective age shows. The cloud is in a smaller version on the home.

Incidentally, there is also a keyword for each individual RSS feed to find the keyword on the page below the last entry or, alternatively, where your browser shows you RSS feeds of the current page.

Translations of blog entries

This website was designed from the outset so that it supports multiple languages, at least German and English should be possible. My vision was that I would write each entry in both languages. For all non-blog entries I do also still, but in the blog I make my work only if they appear to me very important or very short.

For all other cases, I offer now automatic translations. The idea that (although some translations are far from perfect), an English-speaking readers is still has a better chance to understand me than if the text is available only in German. The translations are currently to admire the English summary page of my blog and then have its own link below the entries that I've only written in German. Behind it is found then the translation (example) with a warning.

I usually read only once by me to make sure that it all are not very broad sense is not distorted. I take but no guarantee.

Language and license information

I can now go to the links that are below the entries for lectures, articles, media things, add additional information. The notice as a visitor, especially because now turn is in the form of a small icon when a PDF file, a video or similar under a free license (and if so, under which one), and that it appears when a file or video in a different language than the present, where you read this site. Since my stuff right now pretty much entirely written in German, the latter shall have only the English-speaking visitors.

Print stylesheet

My CSS is now much easier to deal with it if you want to print something from my website. Then there is serif, no background colors, no navigation stuff and other such adjustments. Try it with good will from, if you like.

Miscellaneous

Otherwise, it has the usual small improvements under the hood, which I have forgotten for the most part already. I have among other things about care that everything really here validates as XHTML 1.1. I hope I did not overlook.

As always, any questions, requests or discovered bugs like to report a try.
